KENYATAAN MEDIA BERHUBUNG INSIDEN SELEPAS PERLAWANAN SEPARUH AKHIR KEJUARAAN B-19 AFF 2018 DI SURABAYA, INDONESIA

2018-07-13

MEDIA STATEMENT REGARDING THE INCIDENT AFTER THE 2018 AFF U-19 CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI-FINAL IN SURABAYA, INDONESIA

I have contacted FAM Vice President, Dato’ Ab Ghani Hassan who is also the manager of the U-19 national squad and our team officials in Surabaya, Indonesia to get more information in regards to the incident which happened right after the 2018 AFF U-19 Championship semi-final match against the hosts, Indonesia at the Gelora Delta Sidoarjo Stadium last night.

Based on the information received, it was found that a handful of Indonesian fans threw bottles and stones from the stands towards the direction of our U-19 national players after the match while they were attempting to enter the tunnel and to their dressing room.

The chaos that took place led to an hour-long delay of the U-19 national squad’s departure from the stadium to their hotel.

However, the chaos was successfully controlled by the authorities and no injuries were sustained by our U-19 national players and team officials.

Immediately after the incident, I have contacted the President of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI), Joko Driyono and he has promised to increase the level of safety control for our U-19 national squad when they undergo their training session later today and also at their hotel.

Joko Driyono, representing PSSI also apologised for the unfortunate incident.

As for myself and FAM, we will wait for the report from the Match Commissioner (MC) and the referee before taking any further actions on this incident.

I have also been contacted by the Youth and Sports Minister, YB Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman and I have explained to him what happened. Insya-Allah everything is under control.
